Moot Court
Today in the present era of legal education moot court is very important. It is a way a student is groomed as a proper lawyer. The moot court basically means a replica of a real court where legal proceedings and trials take place and thus it is known as the mock court where students who are studying law act as a professional and take up all the responsibility.
The moot court enables the students to analyze the legal issue. Its larger purpose is to teach students the practical side of litigation. Law students are given a detailed hypothetical situation in which one or more legal issues are raised in a realistic scenario. Often these fact patterns are based on real and appellate cases put up before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble High Court. Moot Court is regularly organized by the College which encourages students not only to participate but also to acclimatize with the court proceedings.
There are a few essential aspects of a good law college, and one of them is having a moot court so that every law student can understand the importance of having practical knowledge of the law. In India, mooting started in the year 1981 by the Bar Council of India. By the year 1985, mooting began to become the essence of law schools.
Mooting is one of the most important aspects of pursuing law as a career option. Mooting is a representation of a court proceeding, involving oral proceedings. It includes written submissions in the form of a memorial.
A proper scenario based on a courtroom is created for the students to have a real-life experience. They have to pretend to be lawyers throughout the proceeding. The focus is not only to understand the law but also the culture, art, and other essentials presiding in human life.
Keeping this in mind, we at VISMT-LAW have started Moot court practice and other related activities from the first day of inauguration. It has been rightly said that “Work hard in silence and let success make noise”, and following this the VISMT-LAW secured many awards and prizes in various moot court competitions. We did not stop here, as one of our students has also achieved “Best speaker” in the Moot court competition.
Apart from this, with the view of providing the best possible way for students to practically grasp the intricacies of the law, we organize MOCK TRIAL competitions, Verbal exchanges, Parliamentary debates, and other related co-curricular activities.
