COURSE NAME-INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION USING PLC & SCADA

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:

To understand the generic architecture and constituent components of a Programmable Logic Controller.

  • To develop a software program using modern engineering tools and techniques for PLC and SCADA.
  • To apply knowledge gained about PLCs and SCADA systems to real-life industrial applications.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: –

  • Classify input and output interfacing devices with PLC.
  • Execute, debug and test the programs developed for digital and analog operations.
  • Determine I/O requirement of the application, develop program and interface system with PLC

INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION USING PLC & SCADA

Module 1: PLC, SCADA Programming

  •  Digital electronics basic
  • PLC fundamentals, PLC hardware & architecture
  • Wiring different field devices to PLC
  • Creating applications with programming software
  • Programming language, basic instruction
  • Load/and/or/out/and read /write instruction
  • Compare /add/sub/and/or- blocks instruction
  • Move, file handling, timer counter block
  • Master control/set/reset function
  • Advance instruction
  • Upload/download/monitoring of programs
  • Forcing of I/os, fault finding/ troubleshooting & documentation
  • Monitoring / modifying data table values
  • Communication with SCADA software

Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition

  • Introduction to SCADA software.
  • Creating a new SCADA project.
  • Creating a database of the tag.
  • Creating and editing graphic displays.

Module 2: Variable Speed Drives & Motors

  • Ac motors operation & limitation
  • Motor starters : dol , satr-delta,autotransformer
  • Motor control circuit, interlocking circuit
  • Introduction to AC drives & application
  • Criteria for drives selection
  • Parameter programming
  • Designing of a drive control panel
  • Communication with PLC, a SCADA software
  • Fault finding/troubleshooting
  • Soft starters & their advantages over conventional starters

Module 3 Panel Designing & Auto Cad

  • Introduction to switch gears & accessories
  • Basic of control & power drawing
  • General protection involved in panel
  • Load management (connected load, running load, load factor)
  • Indication ( ammeter, voltmeter, PF & KW meter etc)
  • Preparation of general arrangement diagrams, bus bar sizing
  • Electrical protection
  • Preparation of power ad control circuit
  • General wiring guidelines
  • Maintenance & troubleshooting of control circuits in live panels

Module 4: Process Instrumentation

  • Various transmitters/ sensors used in industrial application
  • Position sensor: photoelectric, proximity sensor encoder
  • Temperature measurement, (RTD, thermocouple, thermistor) working principle, types, selection guidelines
  • Flow measurement, working principle, types, selection guidelines
  • Pressure measurement, working principle, types, selection guidelines
  • Load measurement, load cells
  • Level measurement, working principle, types, selection guidelines
  • Solenoid valves, control valves, smart transmitters
  • Instrument transformer ( CT,PT)
  • Process control basics, closed and open control process controllers ( on-off proportional, PID)

Module 5: HMI

  • Getting started with HMI
  • Creating applications, creating tags
  • Downloading/uploading program
  • Creating alarm messages
  • Communication with PLC

Module 6: Distributed Control System

  • Introduction of DCS
  • DCS applications
  • Hardware: processor, I/O modules, communication, bus redundancy, etc.
  • Application difference between PLC & DCS
  • Hand-on practical on DCS system

Module 7: Industrial Networking

  • Different network topologies & their importance
  • Training on nodes, ports, drivers, hardware
  • DH-485, Ethernet, device net, control net, Modbus, Profibus, field bus
  • Hands-on practical on networking of PLC
