M.Tech in Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 2001. The department offers high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs. M.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) program was started in the year 2001 with an intake of 36 students. State-of-the-art labs, machines with high configuration, and the latest software required for teaching and research are the inevitable part of the department. The department endeavors to impart high-quality education to students in the areas of Computer Science and Engineering.
The department has very competent faculty to teach the advanced topics of cloud computing, software quality, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Wireless Communications, and Sensor Networks, Cognitive Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Mobile Robotics, Image Processing Data privacy and security, Steganography, Met heuristics and optimization, Data Mining, Big Data Analysis, Hadoop and so on. The faculty of the department is actively engaged in research and development activities along with publications of their research work in national as well as international journals of repute. Research in the department focuses on creating and evaluating innovative learning experiences, inspired by educational principles and technical progress. Students are motivated to pursue multi-disciplinary research projects on a long term basis in a team with other department students. The department actively conducts seminars, conferences & technical talk sessions on various topics of curriculum and also beyond the curriculum that is competent with industries.
The Department is also in close collaboration with IIT Bombay. It has been recognized by IIT Bombay as a ‘Resource Centre’ of the ‘Spoken Tutorial Project’ under ‘Talk to a Teacher Programme’ of Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Department bagged a ‘Knowledge Tree Award’ from IIT Bombay for its exemplary efforts in this direction.
As per the recent Gartner IT Research Report, 90% of Indian firms will use open-source software in four years. As a strategic initiative, the Department is equipping the students to use Free Open Source Software (FOSS) through Spoken Tutorials.
The Department is also organizing Summer Training Programmes through IIT Bombay for students of the Institute and other Engineering Colleges. The Department is developing Virtual Labs in association with IIT Delhi in order to provide remote-access to labs and to share costly equipment and resources. The Department is recognized as a ‘Nodal Centre’ for Virtual Labs by IIT Delhi. The Department is also fulfilling its social responsibility to a certain extent by imparting Computer education to children and adults of nearby villages. The Department is constantly exploring new methodologies of teaching and has now embarked on ‘Outcome Based Education’ where the stress is not on what is taught, but on what is learned. The concerted efforts, put by students and faculty members alike, are channelized for achieving academic excellence.
The vibrant faculty members of the department possess demonstrated expertise in many areas of information technology and flair for teaching different courses. The department consists of highly experienced faculty members both in industry and academics. Faculty members are involved in carrying out collaborative research projects with leading industries and international universities. In addition to the above, the faculty members possess essential attributes of being a good mentor to students.
RESEARCH & CONSULTANCY
Research in the department focuses on creating and evaluating innovative learning experiences, inspired by educational principles and technical progress. The key areas of research of the faculty members include semantic web, data mining, software reliability, wireless sensor networks, network security, big data analytics, and cloud computing. Students are motivated to pursue multi-disciplinary research projects on a long term basis jointly with other department students.

PLACEMENT SCENARIO
As per today’s scenario every organization’s ongoing digital, the IT sector today is a booming field as compared to other sectors and there is a huge demand for good Computer Science Engineers and programmers. The demand is so high that NIIST provided the CSE graduates with excel knowledge of programming, machine learning, artificial intelligence, network security, database management system, and many more recent fields of computer science which is required by an IT company. Training and Placement cell of NIIST trained the students for preparing the campus drive interview through provide the mock interview session for pre-final and final year students and conduct the training session for clearing competitive exams ex. GATE etc. so that they are confident and get placement from the campus drives. Department conducts the training sessions and working on live projects for building the competency of subjects in our students.
Department of CSE, NIIST students are well placed in top multinational companies, some are selected by the PSU’s. Every year our placement is almost 100 percent through Training & placement cell or by clearing the competitive exams conducted by government bodies.
The top recruiters of students of our department include many top software companies like TCS, Wipro, HCL, SAP Labs, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra Satyam, IBM, Honeywell, HP, etc. Around 90% of our students get recruited in the top companies through campus recruitment.
